Dear AAAL graduate students,

In this blog post, I would like to introduce the AAAL GSC committee members. All of us are graduate students just like you, and we want to stay connected with you!

So let me first tell you about our current locations. The following map illustrates where the GSC committee members are located in the U.S. As you can see from the map, we are located in different states including California, Arizona, Iowa, Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Maine, Maryland, New York, and even Hawai’i!

The following table displays names of AAAL GSC members and their affiliations.

* Presented in the alphabetical order of the first names

You are probably wondering where we are originally from. Below is another map showing our home countries. You can see how diverse we are! We come from all over the world, including the US, Brazil, Ghana, Germany, Ukraine, Palestine, Iran, Nepal, Russia, China, Taiwan, and South Korea!

In the survey created by the Social Media Sub-Committee, we asked all AAAL GSC members to finish the following sentence using one word: “To us, AAAL GSC community is _____”. It is amazing that three members chose “family” to describe what AAAL community means to them. Below is the word cloud that demonstrates all the words our committee members have chosen to describe the AAAL GSC community.

Based on these words, AAAL GSC committee members define themselves as follows:

AAAL GSC is a close-knit community that is creative, supportive, empowering, inspiring, engaging, dynamic, and innovative. It is a family that gives its members an opportunity for growth, collaboration, and mentorship.

As a family, each of us has a part to play. We have two co-chairs, one secretary, and three members-at-large in the Steering Committee. Each member-at-large also serves as a member of a sub-committee or a newsletter editor. There are three sub-committees, including Diversity Sub-Committee, Social Media Sub-Committee, and Event Planning Sub-Committee. The following figure displays the governance structure of AAAL GSC.
